Table Shiatsu

Shiatsu, based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a powerful form of bodywork that heals on both physical and energetic levels. Shiatsu literally means "finger pressure". The practitioner applies pressure to specific points with thumbs, fingers, palms ad elbows, and incorporates stretches to stimulate and balance the meridians in the body which are pathways for energy called Chi (also known ask Qi or Ki). Chi is the life fore which sustains very activity of the body, mind and spirit. An imbalance or deficiency of this energy shows in the body as pain or as symptoms arising from stress, tension, or an illness or disease. Shiatsu relaxes, rejuvenates and revitalizes the body, encouraging the free flow of energy and harmony, and stimulating the body's ow inherent healing ability. It compliments Western medicine in people of all ages including adults, the elderly, infants, children, and pregnant women (second trimester only).

Table Shiatsu is performed with the client fully dressed, covered with a cozy blanket, while relaxing on a generously padded massage table. No oils are used. Sustained, comfortable pressure is applied with thumbs, fingers, palms and elbows to points along the entire body, releasing muscle tension, inducing deep relaxation, increasing blood flow, relieving muscle aches and stiffness, restoring movement in the joins, and improves overall health and well being. Gentle stretches are also incorporated to loosen up the joints. Shiatsu triggers the parasympathetic aspect of the central nervous system, which allows the body to regulate all internal organs and systems, and encourages the body to rest and recuperate.
